Viscous damping wall (VFW)

application field

Viscous damper wall is a passive control system that integrates multiple viscous fluid dampers arranged in a wall style. Its core application areas include:

High rise and super high-rise buildings

Dealing with wind-induced vibration: effectively suppressing the shaking of buildings under strong winds, improving the comfort of use and the safety of non structural components.

Auxiliary seismic design: providing additional damping for the structure and working together with the main structure to dissipate seismic energy.

Large span corridor and truss structure

Control vertical vibration: reduce floor vibration caused by pedestrian loads, equipment operation, and other factors to ensure functional use.

Reduce seismic displacement: Reduce the seismic displacement of corridors and other parts relative to the main building, and protect the connecting nodes.

Industrial buildings and critical facilities

Protecting important equipment: applied in power plants, data centers, etc., reducing floor response spectra and ensuring the safety of internal precision equipment during earthquakes.

Control structural vibration: reduce the vibration impact of industrial equipment operation on the factory building.

working principle

By the reciprocating motion of the piston inside the damper, viscous fluid is forced to pass through the damping hole, converting the kinetic energy of structural vibration into thermal energy and dissipating it, thereby providing strong additional damping for the building structure and effectively controlling the response of the structure under dynamic effects such as wind loads and earthquakes. Viscous damper walls do not provide structural stiffness, only damping force, so they do not change the inherent dynamic characteristics of the structure, but can significantly improve the damping ratio of the structure. It is an efficient and flexible solution for wind vibration and seismic control.
